Early Spring Raised Bed

Above is a photo of a Strategic Gardening raised bed from April, 2017 with the greenhouse plastic removed. Most of the vegetables in this plot overwintered, despite low temperatures below 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

Note the white, plastic in-ground worm composter in the left foreground. It was placed back in the garden April 1st after over-wintering indoors. It will be a source of worm compost and compost tea throughout the growing season.

For more information on the worm composting element of Strategic Gardening, please visit the Worm Composting page of our website.

Modular Concept

While Strategic Gardening is based on a 4' x 8' raised bed, this system can be adapted to areas encompassing hundreds, even thousands of square feet.

The Protective Cover (greenhouse plastic/row cover) stays in place until flowering commences at which time the canopy is opened to allow pollinators access. The PVC structure remains in place however and can be fitted with plastic deer fence to keep four-legged pests at bay.
